Firstly, we (Pearl & Matt, aka Mr. Plantswithpearl) started out selling rooted cuttings of more commonly-found house plants like pothos, tradescantia & various succulent leaves through regular, untracked mail. After having some success dipping our proverbial toes in the water, we decided we was ready for more of a challenge! We researched & secured an import permit to be able to get our hands on some exciting new varieties from overseas!

Importing isn't for the faint of heart, & many plants were lost! I took every opportunity to learn about rehabbing & caring for these plants I now had in my charge, including taking a course online about the inner workings of plants through Guelph University (highly recommended!) We quickly converted the second bedroom of our apartment into a plant super-space & crammed two grow tents in there to allow the collection to grow. All while maintaining a full time desk job!

After much trial & error, we realised we are able to produce much healthier plants ourselves, as opposed to waiting for our imports to acclimate after (what can be) brutal travels.  Today 99% of our plants are now produced by us, in Ontario. This makes for happier, healthier plants & also is an easy way for us to reduce our environmental impact by not relying on planes to bring us all of our plants!

We have very high standards at Plants With Pearl. Each plant is carefully bundled up & tucked into its box with love (we reuse packing material whenever possible!). We do not send out plants we ourselves would be disappointed receiving & each plant is spot checked before it heads out. We use preventative beneficial insects as an extra layer of security, too!

Fast forward to 2021, 18+ tents full of plants ongrowing (I couldn't resist the plant pun okay LOL) we were able to make plants our fulltime gig & can't WAIT to grow to our full potential!
